Arrest Made in Felony Animal Cruelty Case in Lynchburg
Lynchburg, VA – On September 27, 2024, the Lynchburg Police Department’s Animal Control Unit responded to a call regarding a deceased dog found in a backyard in the 1500 Block of Bedford Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the animal and obtained a search warrant to conduct a thorough investigation of the property.
Following the execution of the search warrant, the deceased dog was removed for examination. A necropsy was conducted, which provided critical evidence in the case. As a result of the investigation, Quentin Calhoun-Pope, a 28-year-old resident of Lynchburg, has been charged with Felony Animal Cruelty under Virginia Code 3.2-6570.
On October 11, Calhoun-Pope was taken into custody without incident and has been remanded to the Lynchburg Blue Ridge Regional Jail. The Lynchburg Police Department is committed to ensuring the welfare of animals in our community and will continue to take appropriate action against acts of cruelty.
